4th grader receives fire safety award from firefighters

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Firefighters are used to getting called out to bad situations.

So they relish in the moments they can put a smile on a face and spread some joy.

They did that Wednesday evening for Harley Radi.

The 4th grader at Clippard Elementary had to create a fire safety poster for class.

There were a few requirements like including the phrase "hear the beep when you sleep."

Firefighters then chose the winner.

And her poster got first place.

Part of her prize included firefighters making a special visit to deliver the gift card she won.

And the firefighters did not disappoint.

"It felt really cool to be able to do that," Harley said. "It felt awesome. It felt like I was special cause I took like three weeks on that and this poster. You get some cool rewards when you work really hard and try your best."

Harley got a look inside one of the fire trucks and a ride around the block.

Her mom was thrilled she got this opportunity.

And from the look on her face, Harley was pretty excited too.
