CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Crews responded to a house fire in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Jackson and Fruitland Fire Departments were on scene at the fire off of Hwy. Y.

Fruitland Fire Chief Rob Francis said the house is a total loss.

The highway was blocked for some time, but the scene is now clear.

According to Jackson Assistant Fire Chief Randy Davis, the structure was fully involved when crews arrived on scene. He said there was a lot of fire and smoke damage to the structure.

Chief Francis said they don't know the cause of the fire, but they are still investigating. He said dry conditions added to the fire, making it spread faster.

He said no one was injured, but pets inside the home did die in the fire.

According to Kate Struttman with the American Red Cross, they have a team headed to the location to hand out food and water for first responders and residents who need it.
