MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A Reidland, Kentucky man is accused of arson and falsely reporting an incident.

Jeremiah G. Yetter, 33, was charged with second degree arson and falsely reporting an incident.

Deputies with the McCracken County Sheriff's Department say they and the Reidland Fire Department responded to a report of arson in the 5000 block of Epperson Road on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Deputies say Yetter told them when he and his wife returned to their home, which they rented from his father, he found several household items stored in the garage had been piled up in the middle of the garage floor and set on fire.

According to deputies, because the garage was small and closed up, the fire smoldered before it was able to consume the garage.

They say further investigation determined Yetter was allegedly responsible for setting the fire in the garage.

The investigation also revealed that Yetter contacted the sheriff's department on two recent occasions and allegedly made the following false reports:

On Oct. 14, Yetter reported that someone came onto his property during the early morning hours and threw a cinder block through the front windshield of his vehicle and flattened his tires.

On Oct. 19, Yetter contacted the sheriff's department and reported two people wearing trench coats and carrying a machete came out of the woods behind his home and ran off after seeing him.

Yetter allegedly put a machete and a pair of gloves at the edge of the woodline so deputies could find the items.

Deputies say charges on these allegedly false reports are pending.
