JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

A new roundabout in Jackson, Mo. will be a one-lane, four-way intersection; and will hopefully solve congestion in the area.

The work will be a joint effort between MoDot and the city with each paying about $750,000.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the roundabout will make traffic flow more smoothly and improve safety.

The project is being managed by Eric Krapf at MoDOT.

Krapf said he’s hopeful to accept a bid and start construction at the beginning of spring 2016.

He said during this construction there will be times when Main Street will be closed, but detours will be posted.

Heidi Little has lived her entire life in Jackson and said the roundabout will bring a lot to the community.

“I believe it’s going to help reduce the traffic flow here in Jackson, especially in the mornings and after work it’s very congested," Little said. "We use the one over by LaCroix [in Cape Girardeau] on Sundays and it really does help the traffic flow on our way to church in the morning. So I see this being a benefit to our community also.”

Some business owners in the area say they're concerned this construction could lead to the closing of their business.

Construction is expected to be completed sometime at the end of 2016.
