CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Several hotel owners and the City of Cape Girardeau are partnering up to construct a new Drury Southwest, Inc. conference center.
The structure will be built at the current Drury Lodge location near Interstate 55 to increase tourism and bring more money to the local economy.
On Monday, the city council voted to help fund the $11 million conference center.
The hotel will include 168 rooms and a 20,000 square foot conference center.
In 2014, community leaders and industry experts worked on an Economic Feasibility Study.
They reviewed projects that would add jobs and strengthen the economy.
Hospitality research firm HVS found a large, unmet demand for upscale hotels and conference center.
This is the third major project made possible by public-private partnerships with the City.
