This week in music: 1988

(KFVS) -

Let's step into the Breakfast Show time machine and head back to 1988.

Among headlines that year, George Bush defeated Michael Dukakis in the presidential election.

The Dodgers defeated the Oakland A's in the World Series.

Among the biggest movies that year were Rain Man and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

And these were the pop/rock songs being played on the radio this week 27 years ago.

Billboard's Hot 100 had The Escape Club at number five with Wild Wild West.

At number four was the British heavy metal band Def Leppard with Love Bites.

Holding down the number three spot was What's On Your Mind by Information Society.

The British reggae band UB40 was at number two with Red Red Wine, a song originally recorded by Neil Diamond back in 1967.

And in the top spot was another song which was a hit in the 1960's by the Mindbenders.  Phil Collins re-recorded it and climbed to number one with Groovy Kind of Love, this week in 1988.
