CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Frost is expected through much of the Heartland early Saturday morning.

A frost advisory is in effect for Saturday morning. Frost is likely Sunday morning with the possibility of the first freeze.

That means many gardens and plants could be at risk.

Whether you grow mums, pansies, kale, etc. it’s important to take proper precautions.

There are products available to help prevent them from freezing. FreezePruf and Harvest-Guard can keep your flowers protected with a spray or cover.

Spray Freeze Proof on your plants ahead of the freeze.

Harvest-Guard is a light, soft blanket that covers the plants.

Don't use plastic, because if temperatures drop low enough the plastic could freeze to the plant. If you use plastic and don't remove it before the sun rises, it could actually heat up quickly and burn the plants.

If you don’t have the time, money, or opportunity to use those products then try this.

Before the sun comes up, spray a mist of water on the foliage. This helps combat some of the negative effects of frost.
