First Alert: Last day to wear shorts or t-shirts; colder weather on its way

It is Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015.

First Alert Weather Outlook:

Get out and enjoy the weather today, before much cooler weather blows in tomorrow. You’ll need a jacket or a sweater heading out the door to work or school, but by this afternoon Brian’s First Alert Forecast shows the last warm day for a while with highs around 80. There is a chance for isolated showers today. The weather team is still tracking the first possible widespread frost this weekend!

Making Headlines:

House fire: A home in Kennett is a complete loss after a fire started around 8:00 p.m. No one was home when the fire started. But a mother and her son are without a house this morning.

Additional assistance: President Barack Obama will keep 5,500 U.S. troops in Afghanistan when he leaves office in 2017. The president is expected to announce the changes during an address from the White House today.

Be alert: A warning from the Illinois Department of Transportation reminds drivers this time of year they should keep their eyes peeled for deer on Illinois roads. In Jackson County, Ill. alone there were 288 crashes involving deer in 2014.

Take cover: Practice makes perfect and that's why thousands of people across the mid-west will learn what to do when an earthquake rattles the ground. It's all a part of the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut.
