Want to be on the pumpkin patrol?

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The Carbondale Police Department needs volunteers to help with this year’s ‘Pumpkin Patrol.’

On Saturday, October 31, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., the department will sponsor a Halloween Safety patrol.

Volunteers are asked to wear orange safety vests and drive vehicles with the ‘Pumpkin Patrol’ logo throughout neighborhoods where kids are trick or treating.

Members of the patrol will identify potential hazards to kids and provide a place for them to turn if they feel threatened. Parents are encouraged to walk with their kids while trick or treating.

The Pumpkin Patrol has been in place since 1992.

If you would like to volunteer, contact Officer Randy Mathis at (618) 457-3200, extension 402.
