Man charged with murder after driving into 95-year-old woman riding lawn mower

A Cunningham, Ky. man faces a murder charge after police say he struck and killed a 95-year-old woman riding a lawn mower in Graves County on Oct. 12.

It happened Monday just before 1 p.m. near the 3200 block of KY 1820.

Helen M. Adams, 95, of Melber, Ky. was driving a riding lawn mower east on KY 1820. 

William R. Crumbaugh, 24 of Cunningham, Ky. was driving a 1999 GMC pickup truck east on KY 1820. 

Crumbaugh ran into the rear of the lawn mower, causing Adams to be ejected from the mower, according to Kentucky State Police.  

Adams was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. where she died.

Crumbaugh was taken into custody before Adams died and charged with murder, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs 2nd offense aggravating circumstance, driving on DUI suspended 3rd aggravating circumstances, possession of marijuana, tampering with physical evidence. He was also served with an outstanding warrant out of McCracken County for failure to appear.

Crumbaugh was taken to the Graves County Jail. 

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.
