This week in music: 1961

(KFVS) -

Let's set the musical time machine back to this week in 1961.

Billboard Magazine had these songs at the top of the Hot 100.

At number five was The Dovells with their dance tune "The Bristol Stomp."

Dion was holding down the number four position with his song about an unfaithful lover. Listen people what I'm telling you, keep away from "Runaround Sue."

Checking in at number three was Bobby Vee with "Take Good Care of My Baby." That song was covered by The Beatles during their audition for Decca Records.

Roy Orbison was holding down the number two spot with the ballad "Crying."

In the top spot was a song that Rolling Stone magazine ranks as one of the 500 greatest songs of all time. We're talking about the Ray Charles classic, "Hit the Road Jack" which spent two weeks at number one in October of 1961.
