Farley, KY man injured in dog attack

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A Farley, Kentucky man was seriously injured in a dog attack on Sunday, Oct. 11.

According to deputies with the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, they received a 911 call at about 2:42 p.m. about a man being attacked by two "pit bull-type" dogs on Yarbro Lane in the Farley area of McCracken County.

Deputies say Herbert Brown, 75, had been in his yard with his Dachshund when the other dogs came into his yard and attached his dog.

According to Brown and a witness, one of the larger dogs grabbed the Dachshund by the neck and started shaking it.

Brown said he came to the defense of his pet and was bitten on the right forearm.

According to deputies, during the struggle to free his dog, Brown had numerous cuts, one large cut and a broken finger.

They say a neighbor was able to come to Brown's aid and was able to free his arm. Together, they were able to get Brown and his dog to safety.

An animal control officer and deputies found the dogs near Evelyn Drive.

According to deputies, several attempts by animal control to capture them humanely were unsuccessful. They say one of the dogs came at the animal control officer and deputy in an aggressive manner.

They say taking into consideration that a person had already been injured by the dog, a deputy shot and killed that animal.

According to deputies, the other dog was caught by family of the owner.

Deputies say it was reported to them that Brown was taken to an area hospital and would need surgery on his right arm.

They say it was also reported to them that animal control had cited the owner of the "pit bull-type" dog for harboring a vicious animal.
