Southern Illinois fundraiser aims at $100,000 for area charities

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Around $100 thousand dollars was raised Saturday afternoon for children across southern Illinois.

Saturday was the 16th annual fundraiser for the Poshard foundation, held this year at John A Logan College.

There was a silent auction, and a luncheon for those in attendance.

The money will go to 32 different charities in the southern 16 counties of Illinois.

Each of those charities focus on abused, abandoned, or neglected children.

"Don’t let this issue get swept under the rug." Advised organizer Glenn Poshard, "It’s an issue that a lot of communities don’t want to admit to, and don’t want to deal with… so the more awareness we have, the better ownership we can take of the problem and that gives us an easier way to find a solution."

Poshard says many of the charities who attended Saturday need the money more than usual, because some have lost funding during Illinois' ongoing budget impasse.

As of Saturday, Illinois has operated for 132 days with no budget.
