U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today met with Dr. Carlos Vargas, President of Southeast Missouri State University, to discuss the university’s role in the region and potential opportunities for collaboration.

“Southeast Missouri State University is a top-tier institution,” said McCaskill, a University of Missouri alumna.

“Dr. Vargas brings a fresh perspective to the university. It was great to hear his vision and discuss how we can partner together to strengthen the institution’s role in the region.”

Dr. Vargas, who holds a Ph.D. in physics and aerospace science, began his tenure as Southeast Missouri State University’s 18th President on July 1, 2015 after most recently serving as the acting president at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.

The university offers more than 200 degree programs and is home to more than 11,000 undergraduate students.
