Giant City State Park to host presentation on park history

MAKANDA, IL (KFVS) -

Giant City State Park and the Makanda Township area have been hit hard by a sequence of natural events including an ice storm, inland hurricane, tornado and drought.

These disasters bring an increased risk of potential invasive species as well as present a challenge to resource managers and land owners.

On Oct. 15 from 7:00 p.m. through 8:15 p.m. at the Giant City State Park Visitors Center, you can attend an informative presentation on how fire played a role in the evolution of the Oak Hickory forests.

Along with the informative presentation, there will also be a discussion on how they plan to use the evolution to help combat the disasters in the future.

No registration is required to attend. For more information, place call the Giant City Visitors Center for more information, (618) 457-4836.
