An Illinois man has been arrested after he allegedly broke into a car outside a bar and stole property from inside.

On October 6, 2015 at approximately 4:28 p.m. officers from the Murphysboro Police Department responded to the Da-Nite Tavern after a reported burglary of a motor vehicle.

Officers learned that someone forcefully entered a vehicle in the parking lot by breaking a window and taking property.

The property was found in a nearby wooded area by officers who were searching the area for the suspect.

The suspect was not located at this time but a witness provided a description of the person.

Later that evening officers responded back to the Da-Nite Tavern after receiving a report of a suspicious person loitering in the parking lot who matched the description of the suspect from the burglary.

Officers located and identified this person as Justin Peak, 28, of Murphysboro, Ill.

Peak was found to have a warrant for arrest out of Franklin County, Illinois, and was arrested.

The witness positively identified Peak as the suspect from the burglary.

Peak was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle and was incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail.

Police were also investigating two retail theft complaints occurring on September 18 and 19 at the Circle K gas station next to the Da-Nite Tavern on North 14th Street.

Peak was also identified as a suspect in those incidents, and has been charged with two additional counts of felony retail theft.
