SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A firefighter had to be taken to a hospital after fighting a fire in rural Scott County on Wednesday.

Crews were called to a mobile home fire at 179 Scott County Rd. 449 around 9:15 a.m.

Some of the firefighters working to put out the fire were briefly trapped by falling debris.

Scott Country Rural Fire Chief Jeremy Perrien says firefighters went into the home because neighbors told them the tenant was unaccounted for. He says the home didn't have electricity but, according to neighbors, an elderly woman still stayed there on occasions.

No word on if the injured firefighter was one of those who were trapped.

Firefighters on the scene say there was no one in the home at the time of the fire.

After gaining access to the home falling debris briefly trapped firefighters in a bedroom until an escape hole could be cut to create an exit.

There were no working utilities connected to the home at the time of the fire.

The damage is considered a total loss. The cause is under investigation.
