CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Officials say one person is dead after a rollover crash on southbound Interstate 55 on Wednesday morning, Oct. 7.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has identified that driver as 29-year-old Bethany A. Venable, of Sikeston.

Troopers say Venable's vehicle traveled off of the left side of the road, overcorrected, traveled off of the right side of the road and overturned.

According to the highway patrol report, Venable was ejected from the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner David Taylor at 10 a.m.

Cape Girardeau police say witnesses told them that the driver was apparently weaving across both lanes of southbound I-55, near mile marker 105.

Then, around mile marker 102, witnesses say the driver clipped the safety cables on the inside of the southbound lane, bounced off of them and overcorrected into the ditch on the right side of the road.

According to witnesses, the driver then drove up an embankment, and rolled the vehicle around four or five times.
