JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

The City of Jackson, Missouri will begin salting city streets this coming winter season.

Previously Jackson Public Works used cinders to add traction to the roads in inclement winter weather.

Salt will provide new advantages for the city and drivers.

"The salt will actually melt the snow and ice better that's one big benefit," Jackson streets foreman Danny Youngerman said. "The other benefit is the cinders we won't have the clean up near the time cleaning up and everything."

Youngerman said salt trucks will focus on the city's snow routes, steep hills, and emergency complex driveways.

The city has 350 tons of salt on hand for the coming season.

He said there is another 300 tons on reserve if need be.
