MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A Mississippi County, Missouri man is facing a felony weapon charge after an investigation by the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.

Christopher Michael Garcia, 42, of Bertrand, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, the investigation began on Tuesday after an unrelated investigation showed Garcia allegedly had a gun earlier in the week.

Deputies say they recovered a gun and identified and interviewed witnesses with whom interviews.

On Thursday, deputies learned Garcia was allegedly hiding in a rural Scott County community. He was arrested with help from the Scott County Sheriff's Department and turned over to a Mississippi County deputy, then delivered to the Mississippi County Detention Center.

After his arrest, deputies say Garcia participated in a videotaped interview, which according to the deputy's report, strengthened the existing probable cause to believe Garcia had knowingly possessed a gun during a domestic disturbance early on Sunday morning.

Due to his status as a convicted felon, Garcia is prohibited from having guns.

Sheriff Moore would like to thank the Scott County Sheriff's Department for their assistance in arresting Garcia.

He remains in the Mississippi County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
