UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

The Anna-Jo Garden Club hosted a planting event on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the Union County Courthouse.

Around 20 Union County residents participated.

Members of the Anna-Jo Garden Club managed the planting with the assistance of custodians Derek Pender and Adam Sherwood, both of whom handled much of the prep work in the days leading up to the event.

Former courthouse project manager, Mike Smith, assisted, along with many members of the public. Commissioner Bobby Toler, who has acted as the county's point man on the project, also assisted.

The Zeta Psi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, one of the major donor organizations, was represented at the event by President Linda Warren, Vice President Shirley West, Secretary Joyce Linson and Treasurer Nancy Gunn.

The project is completely funded by donations. It is being managed by the Anna-Jo Garden Club.

As funds are collected, additional work will continue on the project.

Donations are being recognized in three categories:

  • Perennials - Donations under $100
  • Shrubs - Donations of $100 to $199
  • Trees and memorials - Donations of $200 and above

Donations can be made at Capaha Bank, located at 358 South Main Street in Anna, payable to "AJ Garden Club" with "Courthouse Landscape Fund" in the memo.
