CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A former Heartland police officer finds herself on the other side of the law after she is charged in connection with an incident at a Cape Girardeau sports field.

Dana Fleming, 36, of Cape Girardeau is charged with unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor domestic assault.

Fleming is accused of attempting to choke her estranged husband Lawrence Fleming Saturday during a youth football game near Arena Park.

Investigators say Fleming actually pulled the gun from the holster her husband was wearing and pointed it at his back.

According to court records, witnesses say Mrs. Fleming jumped onto Mr. Fleming's back as he held down Mrs. Fleming's current boyfriend.

That same record shows Mrs. Fleming told officers she believed her boyfriend was being assaulted by Mr. Fleming and feared for his life.

Dana Fleming worked for the Department of Public Safety at Southeast Missouri State from October 2011 to November 2014.

She was released on bond and will face a judge on Tuesday.

No one else was charged following the incident.
