House fire kills one in Desloge

A man was killed during a late night house fire in Desloge, Mo. on Sunday.

According to Desloge Fire Chief Larry Gremminger, crews were called out to a home on North Desloge Drive about 12:30 a.m.

When fire crews got there, Gremminger said 90 to 95 percent of the home was engulfed in flames.

The fire was burning through the roof and every window. It spread to two cars near the home.

Gremminger said when law enforcement arrived, they found a woman outside choking on smoke. She was transported to a local hospital.

The woman told authorities there was a man inside at one point, but she hadn't seen him since earlier in the evening.

When firefighters first got there, they were able to search the bedroom because the fire hadn't spread there yet. However, no one was located inside the room.

Gremminger said the fire was so intense firefighters could not search the rest of the home until after the blaze was put out.

A man was later located inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No word yet on the identity of the man.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Multiple fire crews responded to the fire including Park Hills, Big River Fire, Leadwood and Farmington.
