CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A Southeast Missouri State University student is using her charity to raise money for the families of first responders who have lost their lives.

Jennifer Rubin, the creator of the Rockin' 4 Relief event, has been with the fundraiser for seven years, which she started when she was just 12 years old

24 locations were set up all over Southeast Missouri,so that donations could be collected for Backstoppers.

Backstoppers is an organization that helps the families of first responders who lost their lives performing their duty.

Volunteers took turns rocking in chairs for 10 hours.

More than 100 volunteers and 24 local businesses took part and stepped up in hopes to bring some financial stability for these families dealing with their loss.

Over the last six years, Rubin and other volunteers have raised over $83,000 and hope to reach $100,000 after this event.
