Chocolate store with unique glass-front to open in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

As Cape Girardeau's downtown revitalization continues, you'll be excited to hear this.

A chocolate factory is opening along Broadway.

What makes it more exciting, inside there's a rare piece of history.

It's called vitralite glass and it's more than 80 years old.

Restoration specialist Timothy Dunn said that most communities are getting rid of the glass and they call him to salvage it, but having this in Cape Girardeau keeps the downtown area unique.

"I think it's great! It's probably a couple, I bet if you started to look around, there's probably 10 or 12 of these store fronts from the 1930s. It was a period where the people was trying to get the business going, but it's just so distinctive look, it's nothing like glass on a store front," Dunn said.

Dunn said it takes a few hours to install and is a very tedious job.
