Event benefiting Heartland's homeless held at Osage Centre

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Making positive changes for people and families was the goal of an annual event called Project Homeless Connect, held in Cape Girardeau on Friday.

Held at the Osage Center in Cape, it offered a one-stop shop for homeless in our region, and those at risk of losing a permanent place to live.

100 volunteers worked with hundreds of people.

Organizers say many of them are doing their best to better their situation.

"The number of working poor, the number of people who are month to month, paycheck to paycheck, one new expenses is going to put them over the edge, those are the kind of people we are really here to help today," says Jessica Hill, the executive director of Safe House for Women.

More than 60 vendors offered their goods and services.

The Cape County Transit Authority offered free rides to and from the event.
