'No Burn' law in effect in Marshall Co., KY until December

MARSHALL COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Marshall County Emergency Management has instituted a 'no-burn' law starting Thursday, October 1 and lasting until December 15.

The law was put into effect due to the nearly three-month period being declared a fire hazard season.

Officials ask that no one burn anything on their property between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

If you do decide to burn during the permitted time you're ask to follow these steps:

  1. Pre-plan your control burn and always keep SAFETY FIRST.
  2. Have a phone with you at all times and should the fire get out of your control, dial 911.
  3. Have a garden hose or bucket(s) of water close by.
  4. Cut fire breaks in the ground to prevent a fire from getting out of control.
  5. Monitor wind direction and know what structure(s) are in the path of the fire.
  6. Keep watch the ENTIRE time you are burning - DO NOT LEAVE the fire unattended.
