MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) -

Some police K-9s lent a helping paw to a high school student wanting to ask a girl to the homecoming dance.

Chase Regenhardt is a 16-year-old junior at Mount Vernon Township High School.

Chase's mom, Kristi Regenhardt, says his friend Talia Carello moved away to Chicago three years ago, but they've stayed friends despite the distance.

Chase and Talia both have an interest in police work. Chase wants to be a K-9 handler and Talia is interested in the FBI.

Chase's mom contacted the police department. He was able to catch up with the K-9 officers at Coffee with a Cop on Sept. 23 before school to take the picture.

Mount Vernon Police K-9s Grim, Jax, and Stryker wore signs that said "Talia will you 'police' go to Homecoming with me?"

He texted the picture to Talia and she said yes!

The two are going to the homecoming dance in Mt. Vernon on Oct. 3.
