CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Are you constantly yawning or dragging throughout the day?

A recent CDC survey found women struggle with fatigue more than men.

While sleep can play a major role, so can your diet.

By making slight changes to your daily eating habits, nutritionist Lisa Raum says you will feel better in no time.

“We've all heard about a balanced meal,” Raum said. “You think about that traditional dinner plate with the vegetable, starch and the meat. But that's not what I mean right? I mean balanced nutrients.”

There are several “super foods” to fight fatigue.

The secret is a combination of good fats, carbohydrates, protein, and iron-rich foods.

It's a winning formula and starts with breakfast. One example is a fruit smoothie.

Raum says you want something that can stick to your ribs and carry you throughout the day.

“I actually have butternut squash oatmeal,” Raum said. “You can buy that frozen or you can chop it up fresh, mix it in with some wholegrain oatmeal and put it in some milk instead of water.  You got the calcium, the magnesium, the protein.”

Raum also recommends topping it off with a few nuts.

When you think you're getting enough sleep, low iron could be the culprit for your fatigue.

“Left green vegetables are a great source of iron,” Raum said. “You pair it with some cheese because it's a dairy food and it contains a nutrient that can help you absorb iron.  Then you're making sure you got the whole package.”

Magnesium and calcium rich foods are another good combo to give you an extra boost.

Raum also says avoid anything heavily processed and added sugars.

While they might give you a short pick me up, it's not long lasting.
