This week in music: 1983

(KFVS) -

Let's head back to this week in 1983.

These were the songs being played on the radio and cassette players at the time.

Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 had "Sexy + 17" by the British rockabilly band the Stray Cats at number 5.

In the number four spot was a soft rock duo from Australia. Air Supply's power ballad "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" was written by Jim Steinman. More on him shortly.

Holding down the number three position was a Canadian new wave group, Men Without Hats. Their hit "The Safety Dance" was a protest against bouncers stopping dancers from "pogoing". Remember that '80s craze where dancers jumped up and down in the same spot?

At number two was Billy Joel with "Tell Her About It." A song he says sounds like a Tony Orlando and Dawn recording.

And in the top spot was Bonnie Tyler with her first and only number one hit. We mentioned Jim Steinman earlier. He also wrote this hit. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" sold more than 6 million copies worldwide.

That's this week in music from 1983.
