It is Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015.

First Alert Weather Outlook:

The first day of October will bring cooler weather. You’ll definitely need a jacket when you leave the house this morning. Expect it to remain breezy today. But Brian is tracking possible rain for Heartland Football Friday in his First Alert Forecast.

Making Headlines:

Still searching: The Iron County Sheriff's Office is still looking for a man who hasn't been seen for more than 3 days. Cecil Irvin Hedricks, 77, has a heart condition and does not have his medication.

Budget woes: The Illinois State Senate Higher Education committee will hold a hearing on the campus of John A. Logan today to address the state budget stalemate and the effect on higher education. Right now, state support for higher education is still unsettled.

Gaining strength: Hurricane Joaquin will likely to grow into a major storm while following a path that would near the U.S. East Coast. Minor damage was reported after the storm bore down on the central Bahamas.

Under investigation: Paducah police are tracking down leads in a stabbing investigation. A man is recovering after being stabbed on north 6th and Finley Streets yesterday afternoon.
