Benton, IL expands due to new industrial park

BENTON, IL (KFVS) -

Benton, Illinois is expanding, hoping to bring in more jobs to the area…37 acres worth.

It’s called The I-57 Airport Business Park, located on the north end of Benton right next to the city’s airport.

A project by the Benton and West City Economic Development Corporation.

Some of the 37 acres have already been sold to Blue Ridge Tractor, a company that will sell tractors, bulldozers, and similar construction equipment, leaving several acres up for grabs for others businesses, hoping to bring more employment to the area.

“The big thing is jobs," Executive Director for the Benton and West City Economic Development Corporation, David Cooper said. "We want jobs for the area. That requires promoting ourselves. That means getting the land ready, building a road, a nice road, for customers and businesses themselves."

Cooper says the Benton and West City Economic Development Corporation was just approved for an interchange project as well.

The Benton and West City Economic Development Corporation recently received a grant from the Delta Regional Authority to concrete a road, 565 feet, that runs through the new industrial park.

Cooper says the road will take about 30 days to complete weather permitting, which will then allow Blue Ridge Tractor to start moving in. And then allowing more industrial-type businesses moving in afterwards.
