PRINCETON, KY (KFVS/AP) -

One person is dead and another injured in a shooting at ConAgra Foods on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 30, according to a western Kentucky official.

EMS Director Clay Hughes confirmed that a shooting was reported on Wednesday at the Princeton plant, but said that the threat was over. He said police were still at the scene and details would be released later.

According to Princeton police, they responded to a report of a shooting at the plant at around 12:14 p.m.

They say the preliminary investigation showed that Nellie Renee Nichols, 37, of Dawson Springs, Ky., went to the factory to confront her mother.

Police say there was an argument and Nichols began firing shots from a semi-automatic pistol.

According to police, a male bystander was hit in the hand by one of the shots. He was taken to an area hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Nichols was taken to a hospital by ambulance where she was pronounced dead by the Caldwell County coroner as the result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Her mother was not injured.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

We talked to a woman who says incidents like this one are getting too close to home.

"It's crazy. It's so close to home. It's scary to think that someone will get so upset that they open fire. Innocent bystanders got hurt and it's so scary to think that we live right across the street, right down the road," she said.

A statement from ConAgra said the company is aware of "an incident" outside of its plant involving three people. That statement said the people were not employees and the plant has been secured. ConAgra said it is working with police, who are investigating.

ConAgra is one of North America's largest packaged food companies, according to the company's website.
