Jackson Co. man escapes house fire with his 3 dogs

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A Jackson County man awoke to smoke and a fire detector going off inside his home early Wednesday morning.

According to the Jackson county Sheriff's Department, James Broadwell reported a fire in the hallway of his mobile home located on Kimmel Bridge Road around 3:30 a.m.

The sheriff's department reports Broadwell managed to gather up his three dogs, but by the time he got to the front door the house was engulfed in flames.

Fire crews were able to put the fire out.

However, the house and the contents inside are considered a total loss.

The sheriff's department reports the cause of the fire is unknown but may be electrical related.

No word yet if Broadwell suffered any injuries. Th Red Cross is assisting Broadwell.

Fire crews from Murphysboro, Pomona and the Somerset Township Fire Department responded to the fire.
