SPRINGFIELD, IL (KFVS) -

The Illinois budget impasse is threatening Driver Services licensing offices across the state.

Secretary of State Jessie White’s office spokesman Dave Druker said the landlords of Driver Services offices across the state haven’t been paid since before July and utilities aren’t being paid.

“To some degree it’s out of our control,” Druker said.

He went on to say if landlords choose to, they could force the closure of any of the state’s 138 Drivers Services offices.

“They understand that they’re going to get paid,” Druker said. “It’s just a matter of time.”

On Thursday, September 24 Secretary of State Jessie White wrote a letter to Governor Rauner highlighting the impact the budget stalemate is having on Secretary of State services state-wide. [Read Secretary of State Jessie White's letter here.]

As of Tuesday, no offices have been shutdown. In the event that an office in your area does shutdown – Illinois residents can go to any Drivers Services office in the state for services.

However, Druker said that could run the risk of backing up facilities and increase wait time for services.
