Fundraiser for local charity breaks record, raises $20K

A record breaking $20,000 was raised for the Mayfield-Graves County Needline and Food Pantry on Saturday, Sept. 26.

That's thanks to their tenth annual mega yard and bake sale. The yearly fundraiser is put on by several local churches, businesses, organizations, and individuals.

Every dollar raised will go to the Needline and Food pantry to help provide emergency utility assistance and food for those in need. According to Director Jackie Herndon, the faith-based organization assists about 350 local families every month.

Event Chairman Tommy Powell expressed thanks to all those who donated, as well as all the shoppers.

“This was by far the largest quantity of donations we have ever received for this sale and we were blessed with the outpouring from the community,” Powell said. “A lot of people put in some long hours and back breaking work to make this sale a success. For all these people and the Lord providing the results, we are very thankful.”

Leftovers from the sale are donated to local charities.

Churches sponsoring the event this year were First Christian Church, First United Methodist Church, Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana, First Presbyterian Church, Woman on Mission of First Baptist Church, First Church of the Nazarene, Spence Chapel United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, First United Pentecostal Church and Calvary United Methodist Church.
