Many say prayer is what helps them through life from day to day.

Many say it's what helps keep their peace of mind while their loved ones are out working.

In Cape Girardeau, prayer is what dozens came together for in keeping police officers safe. The event is called the SEMO 2015 Police Prayer Rally.

People gathered together at the Cape Girardeau County Park to say a prayer. Many of the people there were police officers or family of officers.

"Coming from an officers wife, it allows me to sleep better at night just knowing that I'm not the only one that's praying for my husband," Jessica Sammut said.

"Not only does that provide him protection but that provides us support no matter what happens."

People we spoke with said the community here seems very supportive of their police and are appreciative of them.

They also say it's seems better to work here with the support they have rather than in areas such as St. Louis where more violence has been portrayed more prevalent on television.

"It's a wonderful area to work in," Jackson Police Officer Jon Jensen said.

"With my parents being up around the St. Louis area and the differences between there and here, it's pretty dramatic and means a lot to the officers.

Jensen says he also sees people go out of their way more nowadays to thank him and other officers for their service.

Others here said that with people's support towards officers around here, it helps the families sleep better at night and worry less.
