Road washed out in July in Caldwell Co. has reopened

A road that washed out during flooding in July in Caldwell County has reopened.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, repairs to KY 276/Blackhawk Road were finished at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 and the barricades were removed. The road is located in the Blue Springs area of the county.

KYTC personnel spent about $80,000 to complete a temporary replacement of the washed out culvert. They say this allows traffic to be restored while engineering and design work continue on a long-term culvert replacement.

The road was washed out during flash flooding on July 28.

Farmers near the location reported rainfall amounts in the 4-inch range, much of it in the hours before the washout.

During the flash flooding, 61-year-old Nancy Hyde Fox died when floodwaters caused the Long Pond Branch Culvert to collapse near the Blue Springs community along the Caldwell-Trigg County line.
