Paducah Parks hosts Veterans Day poster and essay contest


Paducah Parks Services and the Daughters of the American Revolution are hosting the annual Veterans Day poster and essay contest.

The theme is Patriotism, Valor and Sacrifice.

Judging will be in four divisions:

  • Grades K-2 (8” x 11” picture), How Can I be Patriotic and Brave
  • Grades 3-5 (100-150 word essay), Thanks to Veterans for Their Sacrifices for Us
  • Grades 6-8 (150-200 word essay), Why are Veterans Brave and Sacrifice for Us
  • Grades 9-12 (200-300 word essay), Respect Due Our Veterans for their Valor and Sacrifice 

Cash prizes and ribbons will be given to the first, second and third places of each division. 

Winners will be invited to present their picture or read their essay at the Veterans Day parade opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on November 11. Winners are also invited to ride on a float in the parade.

Each entry must have the following information on the back: student's name, grade, name of school and teacher and the school's phone number or email address.

The deadline to submit entries is Thursday, October 22 by 5 p.m.

Entries can be delivered to the parks department office at 1400 H.C. Mathis Drive in Paducah or mailed to the following address.
