Superjam Friday night in Sikeston, left Jackson trippin last weekend

If you didn't get a chance to catch Superjam at the Jackson City Park last Sunday, you should make a date to catch their trip back to the 1980s. It's a throwback tribute to the great songs of the decade featuring music from Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, and Foreigner with a little Head East and Billy Squier thrown in for good measure.

Superjam is Dave Farver, lead vocals and sax, Jeff Gallo on bass and vocals, Eric Lysaght on lead guitar, James Wolfe with keyboard, guitar, and vocals backed by Ken McCray on drums. And if the show felt like a homecoming of sort - well it was. Superjam is based in St Louis but Farver is from Jackson. And the fans let you know it. His sax solo on Foreigner's "Urgent" set the crowd on fire.

And while Farver's vocals were a little off during the first set - folks were saying he was performing too late the night before - he wasn't far off on several Journey songs.  In fact, it was very much like listening to the Escape album.

The bandshell at the Jackson City Park was a great place for any concert. People were spread out on the lawn in groups of two to 20. You could be as close to the band as your ears would allow or hang back to where a conversation was easy. The weather was partly cloudy and the temperatures were just about perfect for sitting in a lawn chair listening to your favorite album.

Not that everyone sat still to listen. People were up and about talking to old friends and making new ones.  Just like any good homecoming.

Friday, Sept. 25 you can catch Superjam in Sikeston at the Southeast Missouri Food Bank fundraiser at 5 p.m. Otherwise catch them in St Louis early next month.  We've linked to their schedule here

Sunday's show was free for the audience with the Jackson Park's Department picking up the tab.
