PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) -

A man was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint in Perryville, Missouri and forced to withdraw money from an ATM.

The suspects in the crime are now behind bars.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jeffrey Shawn Franks and 24-year-old Kaitlyn Marie Martin are charged with kidnapping and first degree robbery.

Police say it happened at a First State Community Bank ATM machine on Main Street. Usually a quiet street, locals say they were shocked to hear about this happening here in Perryville.

“Wow. I just don’t, I mean, it kind of just hit me in the wrong place,” Jacob Yantis said.

The suspects’ plan started at a gas station. The victim thought it was just another night at work, repairing gas pumps, after getting a call from a woman who claimed to be a MotoMart employee.

However, according to court documents, before he could get out of his vehicle, the victim was met by Jeffrey Franks, who held a gun to his head and forced his way inside.

The victim was forced to drive to another part of town before getting in another car, driven by Kaitlyn Martin. The three of them then drove to the ATM on Main Street where the victim was told to withdraw money for the suspects.

Workers across the road at Main Street Tire and Auto say crimes like this are rare.

“Usually we don’t have any problems, I mean, heck we have the police station right up the street from us so that’s even more crazy,” Ben Miranda said.

After the transaction, the victim was taken back to his car. While police say he’s shaken up, he’s ok. Still, locals say they’re being extra careful.

“Beware of your surroundings especially since this happened,”

Both of those suspects are being held on $25,000 cash bond. The surveillance camera on the ATM machine helped lead police to the suspects.
