POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

A Poplar Bluff woman will spend seven years in prison for her role in the shooting death of a man and another five years for an unrelated drug charge.

Patricia Bales was originally charged with second degree murder, but her charge was amended to first degree involuntary manslaughter.

Bales pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of 38-year-old Donald Perry of Sedgewickville. The shooting happened in Bales' apartment on April 17, 2015.

Poplar Bluff police responded to an apartment in the 500 block of Cynthia Street for a shooting at 5:52 a.m.

Police say Perry had been shot several times. He was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment. He later died.

Investigators say Bales didn't fire the gun, but participated in an assault that led up to the death.

She was also sentenced to five years for distributing meth.

Police arrested Walter L. Currie, Jr., 21, of Broseley after he was wanted in connection with the shooting. He was charged with second degree murder.
