Paducah officer fired after complaint about use of excessive force

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

The Paducah City Commission terminated the employment of an officer on Monday, Sept. 21 after an investigation showed he used excessive force.

Officer Michael R. Redmon requested the commission hear the case against him, rather than resign his position, after an investigation was completed in July.

The investigation stemmed from a complaint that Redmon used excessive force in handling an already-handcuffed prisoner in June.

According to Police Chief Brandon Barnhill, Redmon's actions "were found to be inconsistent with training, policy and standards throughout law enforcement."

In addition, Barnhill said Redmon's actions did not meet the level of professionalism expected in the police department.

"We must be justified in situations where force is used in order to maintain integrity within or agency, the profession, and our community," Chief Barnhill said.

Redmon had been an officer with the department since 2003.
