PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

A man was arrested on an outstanding warrant after he was found walking among cruisers parked on the Paducah Police Department parking lot.

Calvin Mayes, 33, was arrested on a Graves County warrant charging him with second degree bail-jumping.

According to police, an officer saw Mayes around the cruisers parked at the rear of the police department's parking lot. As she approached Mayes, she said he ran toward Kentucky Avenue and began walking down the sidewalk.

The officer detained Mayes and learned he had a Graves County warrant charging him with bail-jumping.

Mayes was booked into the McCracken County Jail.

After a review of the surveillance camera video, police say Mayes was seen looking into several of the cruisers on the parking lot before being confronted by the officer.

Chief of Police Brandon Barnhill said, especially in light of recent, more frequent violence against law enforcement, anyone caught looking into unoccupied police cruisers or hanging around police buildings without reason is cause for concern.

This is why, he said, surveillance cameras were installed throughout the property a few months ago.
