Paducah man arrested after looking into police cars

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

A man was arrested on an outstanding warrant after he was found walking among cruisers parked on the lot of the Paducah Police Department.

An officer says she saw Calvin Mayes, 33, of Paducah, walking around the cruisers parked at the rear of the police department’s parking lot.

As she approached him, she said he ran toward Kentucky Avenue and began walking down the sidewalk.

The officer detained and identified Mayes, and found a Graves County warrant charging him with bail-jumping.

He was arrested and booked into McCracken County Jail.

Another officer was notified about the incident, and went to the police department to review surveillance camera video.

Mayes was seen on the video looking into several of the cruisers on the parking lot before being confronted by the officer.

The chief of police said that, especially in light of recent events, anyone caught looking into unoccupied police cruisers or hanging around police buildings without reason is cause for concern.

This is why, he said, surveillance cameras were installed throughout the property a few months ago.
