Lawmakers host forum on Illinois gun laws

WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) -

Area residents met with Illinois lawmakers on Saturday to take the public’s opinion on how gun laws should be handled in the state.

A group consisting of mainly Gun enthusiasts gathered in West Frankfort Saturday morning, where State Representative John Bradley (D) of Marion and the president of the Illinois Gun and rifle Association took questions.

They discussed upcoming changes to the states concealed carry regulations, took viewpoints on the FOID card, and background checks, among other topics.

Area resident Jason Jean brought his son to the forum.

“I want to make sure that he sees the process, and it doesn’t change.” Jean explained, “I mean, he has the right to have the voice and be able to come and ask questions.”

“We had a great crowd today,” Bradley said on Saturday, “and gave out a lot of good information and got a lot of good information from folks here in the community.”

The World Shooting Complex in Sparta came up in the forum, which Bradley says he will push to keep open as lawmakers return to Springfield this Thursday

The complex’s closure is being considered to cut spending while lawmakers continue the fight for a state budget.

Saturday marked 111 days Illinois has run without a budget.
