CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - David He stands throughout the entire Illinois football game against Kent State, occasionally shouting with excitement.
He and fellow student Bruce Lu are broadcasting Illinois' home games this fall in Chinese.
Mike Waddell is the university's senior associate director of athletics. He said the online broadcasts are intended to help turn more of the school's 5,295 Chinese students into fans.
The university believes it is the only American school broadcasting games in Chinese.
Lu and He are both fans. On their first game day they appear comfortable and say they have about 50 listeners.
They and Waddell say they might like to do some of the school's basketball games in Chinese, too.
