92-year-old recounts years volunteering at SEMO District Fair

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Every year the SEMO District Fair comes to town and with it comes Earl Siemers.

He's a staple of the fair, working for years behind the scenes to cook that food everyone loves.

Earl has been working concessions with the Men's Club since 1939.

He can remember the few summers he missed: in 1945 while he was in the service and last year when he got sick.

But otherwise, you'll find him in the kitchen making sausage and bratwurst.

"I'm retired and you get to like the people and visit," said Siemers. "Sometimes you wonder what work is. Some people fish, some work, some for pleasure. And I think mine's just pleasure"

At 92 years old, Earl says he can remember when corndogs were 25 cents.

Now you're looking at $5 for the fair treat.

Earl and his wife, who is 90, have been married for more than 60 years.
