HERRIN, IL (KFVS) -

Firefighters in Herrin, Il. responded to an stinky call early Friday morning when the trash inside of a garbage truck caught fire.

It all happened just after 5 a.m. near the corner Rushing Drive and Rt. 148.

The driver said he noticed flames coming out of the back of his trash truck and pulled over. He said he dumped the trash out of the truck into an empty lot to keep the truck from catching fire.

The driver did not suffer any injuries, and the garbage truck was not damaged.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

The driver says they may never know the cause of the fire. While trash fires aren't common, the driver says these things can happen.
