BENTON, IL (KFVS) -

Every 34 seconds a child under the age of 13 is involved in a crash, according to the Illinois State Police.

If not properly restrained, the crash could be deadly.

Saturday, September 19, Illinois State Police District 13, along with the West City and Benton fire departments will host a car seat safety check.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be at the Benton Fire Department from 9 a.m until 1 p.m. to check that car seats are properly installed.

Police point out that too often, children are riding in the wrong car seats or are completely unrestrained.

The free event is part of National Seat Check Saturday.

Stop by, have your child's car seat checked out, and drive away with piece of mind knowing you're protecting your loved one as best you can.
